My condolences to the entire Capel and Saunders family. I met Jeff in 1982 when he came to watch me play basketball in the 8th grade. From that moment on we developed a special relationship that I still cherish to this day. Both Jeff and Jerry treated me like a son and their door was always open to me. They entrusted me with their boys (Jeffrey and Jason) during the summer months as they worked on their License to become Administrators. He coached me during my 4 years at Pinecrest High School and for several years at Wake Forest University. Coach was so much more than just a Coach. He impacted the lives of his players in many many ways, more than I can count. He especially impacted my life. It was difficult for me to sit in Capel Arena in Fayetteville N.C. this past Sunday and watch him leave us physically. However, I thank Jehovah God for instilling in me the wonderful hope that He has in store for my great Coach and for others like Jeff. Acts 24:15 reminds us that their is going to be a resurrection of the righteous. So I look forward to seeing Coach in the near future when the world will be a better place according to Revelation 21:3,4 and Mathew 5:5 where death, sickness, and yes ALS will be a thing of the past.

Again my sincere condolences.

To the Family, Coach Capel taught me a few important life lessons during my senior year of high school. During my career in education as a teacher/coach and even now in my duties as an administrator at a facility for at risk youth, I interact with youth in much the same way as he did with me. He listened, gave his opinion, offered advice more like a big brother than a teacher. Just a wonderful man that I chose as a role model. Even in mistakes, he would find something positive to end the conversation with, and I will ever be thankful for the impact he had on my life.
A very tall tree has been felled, nary a sprout or sapling will ever fill that void! Still though, because of it's unselfish greatness, the multitude of sprouts and saplings in the vicinity have been bettered to grow tall, strong and provide cover and aid to those in posterity.
Rest well Coach, Thank You for helping me be me!

I send prayers of comfort and peace to the entire Capel family. I appreciated Coach Capel as a student at Pinecrest High and as a Lady Patriot basketball player. Standing at 6'1" tall and not highly skilled at the game, he always encouraged me and gave me pointers on how to get better at basketball. Those small gestures meant a lot and helped me strengthen my game. It was great to watch his career blossom. It was even greater calling him our "Hometown Hero!" He put Southern Pines & Pinecrest High "on the map." What a beautiful legacy he etched to be here forever! Job well done Coach! Rest on!

Jerry, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You may not remember me, and my son Tripp, but back in the 1990s, when Jeff was the coach at ODU, Jeff and you extended unexpected kindness to Tripp and me, inviting us to a game at Hampton U. when, during his freshman year, Jason and UNC played there one night, and providing Tripp with UNC basketball memorabilia. To this day, the signed team poster you gave him still hangs on the wall at Tripp's bedroom in our house. I am sure that you know that Jeff was considered a man of the highest character. I hope that you find comfort and peace with your family.

Deepest condolences on the passing of your dear loved one. When a man leaves a legacy such as Jeff does, all can rejoice. The Bible tells us it is better to go to the house of mourning. Ecclesiastes 7:2-4 reminds us of that. It also mentions that that is the end of all men. Proverbs 22: 1 reminds us that "a good name is better than great riches and loving favor rather than silver and gold. He made a good name for himself, not so much because of his success in sports, but because of his dedication to his family. may you find peace in your wonderful memories of him and look forward to the resurrection when he will be welcomed back in good health rejoicing in perfection.

My deepest condolences to the family,
May you find some comfort in the Gift that the Most High God has given us, yes His written word the Bible (Psalms 83:18 & 2Timothy 3:16). I would like to share a few Scriptures that helped us to cope when our precious daughter died and recently my beloved husband of 50 years fell asleep in death: (Isaiah 25:8)swallow up death, (Isaiah 33:24)no more sickness, (John 5:28, 29)seeing loved ones again, (2Corinthians 1:3) yes God can comfort us, to deal with present situations. But, He also says where we can see our loved ones again at Psalms 37:11 and how long Psalms 37:29. I hope that these few Scriptures were of some comfort to you as they were to me.
My sincere sympathy,
Sissy
