Retired Army CW4 James E. Flanders, age 102 of Heritage Place, Fayetteville, NC departed this life on August 10, 2017.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 AM in the Cape Fear Conference "B" Headquarters Building, Raeford, NC. Burial: Monday, August 21st at 10:00 AM in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
After his military career, he worked for ACP Fayetteville assisting seniors. He enrolled in Fayetteville State University, joined the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He became Commander of VFW Post 6018, 1987-1989. At age 102, he was the oldest living Life-Member of Post 6018. He served as 8th District Commander and as State Americanism Chairman, and in various national positions. He was a past Seam Squirrel of the MOC (Military Order of the Cootie-Honor Degree of VFW) Head Hunters Pup Tent #78, and a past Grand Commander of the North Carolina MOC. He was also a Life-Member of American Legion Post 202 where he served as Chaplain. A man of strong faith he was a member of St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, and a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew of St. Joseph's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Altobelle (Abie) Hampton Flanders, daughter, Trudy Logan (Gary), sons, Niles Flanders and James Early (Miriam), Grandsons, Jah-Mir Early, JaBen Early, Michael Evans, Ronald James Evans, Justen Early, Kenneth Henderson, Craig Bundy, and several great grandchildren and cousins.
There will be a viewing on Friday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wiseman Mortuary; the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
