Thelma Johnson

Mrs. Thelma M. Johnson, age 87 of 14982 NC Hwy 210, Rocky Point, NC.

Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Murphy Johnson, daughter of the late Albert and Louisiana Murphy, was born in Pender County North Carolina on Thursday, July 11, 1929. She quietly transcended into celestial peace on Sunday August 21, 2016.
She received her formal education at Pender County Training School. As a young girl she became a member of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church. She was the sixth of seven children (all siblings have preceded her in death).
She married the late Willie James Johnson and relocated to Newark, New Jersey. She was employed by Ideal, Tanka and Remco Toy Company and Girlland Manufacturing Co. She was a longtime member of Gravel Hill Missionary Baptist Church and served as a Deaconess under the divine spiritual leadership of Reverend Jeremiah and Evangelist Yurvette Maxfield.
She returned to Rocky Point, North Carolina in 1989. At which time she rejoined St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church where she has remained a faithful devoted missionary for the Lord.
She was very outspoken. A well loved and admired mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters, Ms. Gwendolyn Johnson and Ms. Louisiana Johnson, one son Retired 1st Sergeant James. R. Murphy Sr. and wife Rozell, one sister-in-law Mrs. Dorothy Murphy, fifteen grandchildren Andrew, Bridget, Dwayne, Hakeem, Halenma, Hasean, Jamard, James Jr., Latonya, Lisa, Michael, Thelma(Vernell), Tracey, Vanessa  and Willie. Over 60 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A special niece, Ms. Mary Brown. Three very special friends Ms. Olether McCallester, Ms.  Elner D. Pierce and Ms. Ann Moore. A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
