Robert Lewis McKinnon, age 70, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018, at home in Durham, North Carolina. Robert was born August 5, 1947, in Cumberland County North Carolina to Cora Blanchard McKinnon and Angus McKinnon, Jr. Robert attended E.E.Smith High School, he was Basketball Team Captain in 1965, and graduated that same year. He continued his educational pursuits at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). Robert obtained his Masters in History. He taught History at Fayetteville State and Elizabeth City State Universities, he was a licensed Real Estate and Insurance Agent and served in the United States Army in Vietnam. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Cora Blanchard McKinnon and Angus McKinnon, Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina and by his lovely wife, the former Brenda Peterson of Durham, North Carolina. He is survived by a devoted brother, Billy McKinnon of Columbia, South Carolina and significant other, Vickie Graham-Norfleet, and many family members, classmates and friends. We would like to thank William Collins, Sr., Anthony Harris Graham, Nicholas Jenkins, Jeffery Portee, Amedisys Hospice, Maxin Healthcare Service, and the Department of Veteran Affairs Home Based Primary Care. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 25th at 10:30 AM in the First Baptist Church, 302 Moore Street, Fayetteville, NC. Burial: Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. There will be a viewing held Tuesday, July 24th from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wiseman Mortuary.
