Marcia C. (Morgan) Hobgood

Marcia C. Morgan Hobgood, 60 of Knightdale NC, formerly of Fayetteville, NC passed away Sunday January 18th, 2015 at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill NC.

 Marcia transitioned peacefully and surrounded by love, to that house not made with hands eternal in the heavens.

Her formative years were spent in Fayetteville, where she was educated and graduated with honors from the historic, E. E. Smith High School. While at Smith High she was an exceptional student, having been selected for The Governor’s School, was a National Merit Finalist and a proud member of the Marching Band.

She attended Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology from UNC Greensboro, and a Master’s of Science Degree in Special Education from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.

 Marcia was a Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and the Links, Inc. She held numerous leadership positions in community, civic and professional organizations. She was a member of the Speakers Bureau for COPA – Carolina Organ Procurement Agency as this was one of her passions having been fortunate to be a 25 year kidney transplant survivor. She was always proud to tell her story, and was more proud to share that her only sibling- her brother-was her living related donor.

Marcia was passionate about education and at an early age realized her calling to become an educator, specifically to those with special and speech and language needs. She held employment in the North Carolina Public Schools in Cumberland, Durham Wake and Hoke counties and at the time of her demise was employed by the NC Corrections System as a juvenile education specialist.

Marcia was married to Moses Hobgood, Jr. who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved Mother, Louise S. Morgan and brother Ricardo Morgan of Fayetteville, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 27th at 1:00 Pm at First Baptist Church 101 S. Wilmington Street Raleigh, NC. Visitation and ceremonies of service will be held at the church beginning at 12:00 Noon. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday January 28th, 2015 at Rockfish Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
